Leap Home

2024

Imagine you wake up in the woods. It’s dark, cold, and alien. You don’t know how you got there — but you know one thing: you have to find your way back home.

This is a game concept developed during a university course — from story and characters to mechanics and UI examples. I worked on the concept, story, character designs, and gameplay screens. This page shows only a small part of the project. For the full experience, check out the PDF at the bottom of the page.

FROG is our silent protagonist — lost deep in the woods, like a fish out of water. The character is intentionally silent and genderless, allowing the story to be experienced entirely through FROG’s perspective. This design choice invites the player to project their own emotions and interpretation onto the journey.

The player meets several woodland creatures on his way out of the forest. They have a much easier time living in these parts — they’re used to it. FROG is scared of them at first, but after spending some time together, he realizes they’re just trying to survive, just like FROG. They’re a bit snarky, but they mean well.

As FROG journeys deeper into the forest, the world around them begins to change. The cold, snow-covered trees slowly give way to softer greens and hints of sunlight breaking through the branches.

These shifting backgrounds don’t just mark FROG’s progress through the woods — they mirror their inner journey. With every step forward, the world grows a little warmer, a little brighter, reflecting FROG’s newfound courage and determination to find their way home.
